| Sunrise To Hold Camp | Sunrise Aviaiton will be holding a training camp in Borrego Springs the week of the Akrofest contest. The camp is planned to run on Monday, October 13th through Tuesday, October 14th with a possible overflow into Wednesday, October 15th. If the camp runs into Wednesday, provisions will be made to allow "fly-ins" to share the box.
Please contact Michael Church at Sunrise Aviation for more information on this camp or to enroll.
NOTE: If you plan to use the Borrego Box on Wednesday, October 15th outside of this camp, please do plan ahead and coordinate with Michael so he can make arrangements to schedule you in with his camp. | | | | | Three Men In A Box | In the undated photo at the right you can see the box marking party hard at work admiring the completion of the new box markers out in Borrego Springs. The team consisted of Bill Hill, the mastermind and engineer of the group and the day laborers, Gray Brandt and Josh Muncie.
These three guys worked in the harsh extremes of Borrego Springs loading and unloading plywood, bending and pounding rebar into submission, uprooting all manner of flora, correcting the shape of the desert floor with shovels, and painting the plywood with the brightest white paint money can buy.
I've flown to Borrego a few times since the effort began, and it’s much easier to spot the airport. Rumor has it that Borrego is seeing an influx of students on their long cross country solos because they are less likely to get lost.
Higher up, Kirby Dotson reported that the box looked outstanding from 20,000 feet.
Higher up still, we’ve heard rumors that NASA is now using the box as a VFR fix on the Space Shuttle's re-entry approach into Florida as our box and the Great Wall of China are the only two made-made structures that can be seen from space.
Thanks for the hard work, guys. The club appreciates all the sweat and blisters.

| About The Club |
 |
The San Diego Aerobatic Club was founded in
the 1970s. As the name suggests, original members were drawn from the
extreme southern end of California. Since that time, the club
footprint has gradually expanded north drawing many active members from all
over Southern California and beyond.
During the 1980's, the club
formally relocated to the community airport of Ramona, CA. Monthly
meetings took place at that location until the air traffic control tower was
commissioned in 2003. The coming of the control tower and the
controlled airspace forced an end to the club's customary practice and
critiquing sessions north of the airport.
Most meetings are now held in
Borrego Springs at Borrego Valley Airport where the club has a waivered
practice box. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the
Borrego Box if you plan to practice or
compete in Borrego Springs.

| Club Activities |
 |
The club hosts
two regional contests at the Borrego Valley Airport: one in the Spring and
the second in the Fall. The spring event is a "mini" contest,
featuring Primary and Sportsman categories exclusively. This contest
is designed to attract and support pilots at the start of their aerobatic
careers. The fall contest is a full five Category event: Primary,
Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced and Unlimited.
Between contests, club
members get together for "flying meetings" and mutual admiration on the
second Saturday of each month (usually at the Borrego Valley airport).
Additional formal critique and coaching sessions are scheduled periodically
throughout the year. Aside from the formal contests and the informal
Saturday flying sessions, the club plans to have other events as well.
Be sure to consult the
event calendar
for event dates and times.
