2008 Club Elections | With the close of 2008 it is time to review the club leadership and vote in a board of directors for 2009. Many of the people who helped make 2008 a success have thrown their hat back into the ring for continued responsibilities in 2009. At the same time there are several members who have not served on the board prior who would like the opportunity to make a difference in 2009.

Not only did the contest run smoothly, but he also must live right: we were rewarded with the best weather Borrego has to offer. We had just enough wind to need to switch runways, and while it was hot out, it never really reached the point of being miserable.
Michael Church hosted a fifth grade science class and taught the local school kids how an airplane flies. Many of the kids got rides in Frank's Piper as Young Eagles. Others received backpacks. Everyone got their fill of BBQ hot dogs and sat in the Sunrise Extra.
45 contestants flew nearly 140 flights over the two day contest. Everyone arrived at the banquet on time on Saturday evening, so the contest stayed on schedule. We did run a little later than we would have liked, but some of that was due to changes in the schedule to fly a Four Minute Free for the Sundowners event.
Viki Cole, the Borrego Valley Airport Manager, organized another outstanding Sundowner dinner including a live band, dinner, and a raffle.
The contest wasn't completely without a few wrinkles: throw in a protest or two and a couple of technical issues with airplanes, and we had just enough happening to ensure that the contest had some character to it.
Thanks go to all the volunteers, pilots, airport staff, friends, families, Sundowners, fifth graders, and our sponsors for making this possible. | Borrego Akrofest 2008 Contest Results | | | 2008 California Series | The California Series is complete for 2008. | About The Club |
 |
The San Diego Aerobatic Club was founded in
the 1970s. As the name suggests, original members were drawn from the
extreme southern end of California. Since that time, the club
footprint has gradually expanded north drawing many active members from all
over Southern California and beyond.
During the 1980's, the club
formally relocated to the community airport of Ramona, CA. Monthly
meetings took place at that location until the air traffic control tower was
commissioned in 2003. The coming of the control tower and the
controlled airspace forced an end to the club's customary practice and
critiquing sessions north of the airport.
Most meetings are now held in
Borrego Springs at Borrego Valley Airport where the club has a waivered
practice box. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the
Borrego Box if you plan to practice or
compete in Borrego Springs.

The club hosts
two regional contests at the Borrego Valley Airport: one in the Spring and
the second in the Fall. The spring event is a "mini" contest,
featuring Primary and Sportsman categories exclusively. This contest
is designed to attract and support pilots at the start of their aerobatic
careers. The fall contest is a full five Category event: Primary,
Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced and Unlimited.
Between contests, club
members get together for "flying meetings" and mutual admiration on the
second Saturday of each month (usually at the Borrego Valley airport).
Additional formal critique and coaching sessions are scheduled periodically
throughout the year. Aside from the formal contests and the informal
Saturday flying sessions, the club plans to have other events as well.
Be sure to consult the
event calendar
for event dates and times.
